Arctic Loon -- 1 on Sitkin Sound, 9/13

Common Loon -- several on Lake Andrew, 9/15-16

Yellow-billed Loon -- 1 flying out of Shagdak Bay, 9/24; 1 flying west past Loran Station, 9/26

Red-necked Grebe -- several on Sitkin Sound throughout tour

Horned Grebe -- 3 on Sitkin Sound, 9/13-15

Laysan Albatross -- 30+ flying east past Loran Station, 9/26

Black-footed Albatross -- ~10 flying west past Loran Station, 9/18; 5+ flying east past Loran Station, 9/26

Short-tailed Shearwater -- thousands seen on Sitkin Sound and at Loran Station 9/18, 9/23, and 9/26; rarely if ever seen close enough to distinguish from Sooty Shearwater

Pelagic Cormorant -- less common than Red-faced Cormorant

Red-faced Cormorant -- commonly seen on Sitkin Sound, Clam Lagoon, and Kulik Bay

Emperor Goose -- 5 individuals seen on 9/23, 3 at Sitkin Sound and Clam Lagoon, 2 at Kulik Bay

Cackling Goose -- a flock of 50-100 individuals flew east over Kulik Bay on 9/21

Eurasian Wigeon -- 1-2 first discovered on 9/15; seen on at least 5 days up to 9/25, 4-5 individuals seen on 9/24

American Wigeon -- uncommon, seen at several locations

Green-winged Teal -- common; all were of the "nimia" subspecies (included in "Eurasian" Teal by some authorities including the BOU)

Mallard -- common, seen at several locations but primarily at Clam Lagoon

Northern Pintail -- uncommon, seen at several locations

Tufted Duck -- 1 female on Clam Lagoon, 9/13-19

Greater Scaup -- common on Clam Lagoon

Common Eider -- small flocks were seen on Sitkin Sound and Kulik Bay

Harlequin Duck -- common along coast

Black Scoter -- 1 male on Kulik Bay, 9/19

White-winged Scoter -- 2 seen in flight, Kulik Bay, 9/13

Bufflehead -- 1 male on Clam Lagoon, 9/14-16

Red-breasted Merganser -- very common

Bald Eagle -- very common

Gyrfalcon -- multiple sightings 9/13-25 at multiple locations; 6 seen on 9/22; 1 dark morph, all others gray morph

Peregrine Falcon -- an immature with only one eye was seen regularly at Clam Lagoon, an adult was occasionally seen; pealei subspecies

Rock Ptarmigan -- common, seen daily

Black Oystercatcher -- several sightings from Sitkin Sound and Kulik Bay

Pacific Golden-Plover -- 1 flyover at Clam Lagoon, 9/13; 1 seen from close range on road between Clam Lagoon and Sitkin Sound, 9/23

Lesser Sand-Plover (Mongolian Plover) -- 1 at Clam Lagoon, 9/16-23

Common Snipe -- several snipe were flushed at Contractor's Marsh on several occasions 9/14-19, most were not seen well enough to identify as a Common or Wilson's, but 1 Common was positively identified on 9/14

Long-billed Dowitcher -- 3 at Clam Lagoon on 9/13

Marsh Sandpiper -- 1 at Clam Lagoon, 9/13-16

Wandering Tattler -- 1 at Lake Andrews, 9/15; 1 at Shagdak Bay, 9/24

Ruddy Turnstone -- seen in small numbers beginning 9/19 at several locations

Black Turnstone -- 1 at Sweeper Cove, 9/12; several at Sitkin Sound, 9/19

Sanderling -- Clam Lagoon, 9/12-24; numbers growing to 35+ later in trip

Western Sandpiper -- 3 at Clam Lagoon, 9/13

Temminck's Stint -- 1 at Clam Lagoon, 9/13-16

Baird's Sandpiper -- up to 3 at Clam Lagoon, 9/15-23

Sharp-tailed Sandpiper -- 1 at Clam Lagoon, 9/19; 1 at Contractor's Camp, 9/21; possibly several other sightings of birds in flight

Dunlin -- 1 immature at Clam Lagoon, 9/16-21

Rock Sandpiper -- seen daily in small numbers; high count 40+ at Clam Lagoon, 9/23

Parasitic Jaeger -- 2 at Clam Lagoon, 9/12-19

Glaucous-winged Gull -- abundant

Sabine's Gull -- 1 at Lake Andrew, 9/15

Red-legged Kittiwake -- possibly 1 immature at Lake Andrew, 9/15

Black-legged Kittiwake -- common along coast

Common Tern -- 1 of longipennis subspecies at Clam Lagoon on 9/12

Arctic Tern -- 1 at Sitkin Sound/Clam Lagoon on 9/18

Common Murre -- common

Pigeon Guillemot -- common

Marbled Murrelet -- common in mid-Sep but seen in decreasing numbers through end of trip

Ancient Murrelet -- Kulik Bay on 9/12 and Sitkin Sound on 9/15

Cassin's Auklet -- 1 on Kulik Bay; a scope was necessary to see this and the following auklet species

Parakeet Auklet -- a few individuals on Kulik Bay

Crested Auklet -- 1 on Kulik Bay

Least Auklet -- a few individuals on Kulik Bay

Horned Puffin -- uncommon, Kulik Bay and Sitkin Sound

Tufted Puffin -- uncommon, Kulik Bay and Sitkin Sound

Common Cuckoo -- 1 cuckoo sp at Clam Lagoon on 9/13; 1 definite Common Cuckoo seen near town, 9/16-21

Short-eared Owl -- seen at several locations

Fork-tailed Swift -- 20+ between Clam Lagoon and Lake Andrew, 9/14; 23+ at Lake Andrew, 9/15; 2 near airport on 9/19

Bank Swallow -- 1 at Clam Lagoon, 9/16

Gray Wagtail -- 1 at Clam Lagoon, 9/22

Olive-backed Pipit -- 1 near Clam Lagoon, 9/13; 1 near Loran Station, 9/26

American Pipit -- seen (and heard) in small numbers throughout trip, increasing during the second week; most if not all appeared to be of North American origin (i.e., not japonicus)

Winter Wren -- widespread but uncommon, reliably seen at Sitkin Sound a several other locations; tanagensis subspecies

Gray-streaked Flycatcher -- 1 near Lake Andrew, 9/14

Common Raven -- common; kamtschaticus subspecies

Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch -- increasingly common throughout trip; griseonucha subspecies

Yellow Warbler -- 1 immature at Clam Lagoon, 9/15

Song Sparrow -- abundant; maxima subspecies

Lapland Longspur -- abundant but decreasing throughout trip

Snow Bunting -- in rocky areas at higher elevations
