WHITE MOUNTAINS of ARIZONA:
31 July - 4 August 2004

  1) RED-FACED WARBLER--an unexpectedly good look at an unexpected species.
  2) American Three-toed Woodpecker--pure serendipity. We stopped for a barking squirrel and found this female Three-toed, feeding on a pine.
  3) Lewis's Woodpecker--multiple individuals in the town of Nutrioso.
  4) Williamson's Sapsucker--a handsome male, and our third consecutive woodpecker in this list.
  5) Mountain Bluebird--many views, including a pair feeding young in a picnic pavillion.
  6) Pinyon Jay--a flock of about 60 at South Fork.
  7) Black-capped Chickadee--a very rare bird in Arizona.
  8) Black Tern--three of these elegant birds at Becker Lake.
  9) Calliope Hummingbird--many close views, mostly at feeders.
10) Downy Woodpecker--another Arizona rarity.

Additional sightings of interest included Elk, Pronghorn, Beaver, and a multitude of Colorado Chipmunks and Golden-amntled Ground Squirrels. The scenery and habitats were simply gorgeous.
